"The persecution of Dr Makis in Alberta, culminating in a permanent injunction against him practising medicine in that province, is a warning shot to the medical community. Despite the CPSA’s assertion that the ruling does not prevent other health practitioners from acting according to their scope and judgement, in reality it sends a clear signal about the consequences of stepping out of line. Furthermore, ivermectin is caught in a vicious circle: it cannot be authorised as a cancer treatment until there are large randomised trials — yet there is little financial incentive to fund trials into an off-patent therapeutic. Thus the profit-first status quo is maintained, and Canada loses a dedicated doctor. "
